June Camp 2005

Enjoyed it very much. The only bad part was my patrol. Panther and Eagle merged and erhm... you should know wad happened. During the camp we hadd lessons, backwoodsmen and pioneering. A confidence walk was carried out in the night. At the end of the camp, al those who participated got either a Scouts Standard or Advance Scout Standard.

The National Patrol Camp Pre-Camp

1st day.
Terry, Ren Wei, Me, Terence, Zhai Wang, Pinky, Audi, Marcus and Edi were involved in the this camp.We started our day by untieing and cutting apart our kitchen shed from its last use which we failed to dismantle the day before as it was raining. As a result Terry got sick. After untying, we packed everything and brought it to the basketball court to dry. We had a rest and then Edi, Zhai Wang and me marked our campsite boundaries. Our belongings were left at the blue benches near the leg washing area. After that, all of us carried all the wood to the campsite. It was quite a long walk. At first the campsite was very green with grass...Then we got to work. Terence, Pinky, Audi and Zhai Wang pitched the tent and then built their gateway. en Wei and me helped Edi and Marcus to build their kitchen shed and once the frame was up, Ren Wei and I started our equipment shed.Lunchtime came and we began to cook. while cooking, it almost rain. Jeremy Sir made the clouds go away by doing a rain dance or sumthing like that. After a while, a bigger one came and he said "Just now was the son and now is the father". It meant that the smaller cloud was the child and now the father had come. Throughout the camp we gave each big cloud a title like great grandfather. Because it was in November, there were alot of rain clouds. So by the end of the camp, we reached the great great great great great great great great great great grandfather. After lunch we continued our campsite till dinnertime, after which we continued our campsite in the dark with the help of gas lamps. As the ground was muddy, Khim Yong Sir allowed us to sleep in the cozy corner in the canteen.

The next day we continued tying after breakfast until lunchtime. That day was for backwoodsman cooking. We gathered twigs while we called Terry to come and join us. During the actual NPC, we would only be given 3 matchsticks. If we didnt start the fire within 3 matchsticks, we would lose marks. We started the fire using 2 matchsticks and continued our campsite after lunch. It was the same thing for at night. We ate dinner and continued work.

The 3rd and last day arrived. we had already finished our campsite, so that day did our pioneering structure, a tower. We completed our tower 1 hour before the time limit and was treated to Milo by the Sirs. The rest of the day was spent untying everything including the tower. on our gateway there was a flag. Marcus climbed up to untie it and couldnt get down. So he tied a bowline to himself and the gateway and tried to jump down. However he aborted the plan because the when he tried to jump, he felt the whole gateway shake.We packed everything and then went off to the void deck opposite the school as it was going to close soon. There, we decided which 8people should go for the NPC. However Ren Wei went home earlier on cause he was sick. So there were 8people there. We were to vote the person we wanted to go out. I got 2 votes. Zhai Wang got 3 votes and Pinky got 3 votes. Then we had a second round for Pinky and Zhai Wang. Zhai Wang was voted out. That ended our camp.

National Patrol Camp 2005

1st December - 5th December

Sarimbun Scout Camp
1st Day...

The day started off as I came out of my house. As i reached the bus top, i realised that i had forgotten my toothbrush. I went back to get it and then i was late. I took the bus and when i reached there, they (ventures + sirs + npc team + Jun Jie) were already loading the equipment. I helped them and we finished in a few minutes time. Then, we proceeded to the den, where we got our stuff like slippers, uniform cover and NEC tshirt. we got on to the bus and the sirs gave us a final talk before reaching Changkat Changi. When we reached there, we helped them load their equipment and then we were finally off to Sarimbum Scout Camp. On the way the sirs and Ms Goh told us stories about previous scouts and tips on scoring well.

We reached there, unloaded and helped Changkat and Siglap unload. We had our lunch, changed to Full- U and reported at the campfire pit, where we had our camp breifing by our camp chief. Then, we had our camp briefing by our sub-camp chief, Tan Wil Beng from Victoria School. He told us to have fun, and interact with each other as 5% of our total marks. At that moment, Marcus turned around and said hi to the person next to him.

Then we got back to the campsite and started work. We completed the tent, then the sec2s went to the build the gateway, while we, the sec1s, Marcus and Edi built the kitchen shed. When the main frame was up, Terry, Ren Wei and me went to built our equipment shed. At the end of the day, we didnt do as much as we hoped. Our debriefing that day was short and simple by Edi after which we went to sleep, too lazy to bath.

2nd Day
Today was still camp development, which resumed after our inspection. we were more motivated today as we saw what other schools were doing. We continued camp development all the way till night, when we went to bed early. Ren Wei was downloading and playing games on his handphone. Then, a centipede crawled on his hand as he spammed my whole can of insecticide, refusing to sleep.

3rd day
Today was a somewhat important day as we were going to do our tower. we started of with inspection again and then proceeded for our theory papers. Marcus, Audi, Terry and me went for the Scout Lore paper, which we failed miserably, and the Orienteering paper which we almost passed. Edi, Terence, Pinky and Ren Wei went for First Aid , which they did well, and the Campcraft and Pioneering paper. After that it was around noon. We had our lunch and proceeded to our pioneering site. We quickly chionged our tower and had around 15 mins of extra time. Halfway during the tower, Pinky went back earlier to prepare for the campsite judging. Overall, the tower went quite well. By the time it finished, it was getting dark. We found out that the judges still had not come to mark our campsite, so we continued with our camp development touch up. The judges came and we didnt do as well as we expected. Our hopes for Gold was reduced to Silver. But we still had 1 last day.

We then went for our Subcamp campfire skit presentation, which we screwed up. Then, we decided to go and bath, since we had been attacked by mosquitoes after Ren Wei spammed insecticides. Unfortunately, it began to rain heavily. We didnt mind, but then, our gateway collapsed. With some help from Siglap, we managed to bring it up and secure it. But, we were in no mood to bath. So we just went to sleep.

4th day

Today was the last day of judging. In the morning we had backwoodsmand and orienteering. Backwoodsmen was a failure as we lighted it with 3 matches and didnt prepare the food properly. Orienteering was quite well. Then in the afternoon it was First Aid Practical. Audi, Terence, Marcus and Edi went for it, but didnt do very well. Then Edi sent Terry and Ren Wei for the Tower Judging. Open House also started. We were visited by the Ventures, Leaders, Zhai Wang, Ms Goh and Terence's Parents with a lot of goodies. We waited till Terry and Ren Wei came back from the tower, and then we went around the whole camp. Edi, Audi, Terry,Ren Wei and me went around breaking records for other people's games. We had a lot of fun. Then was the campfire and the judging. Changkat and Siglap won Bronze. After the Camp Chief announced all the Bronze, all of us were mad with joy.

I will always remember his words in my heart.
"Now for the Silver Merit Awardees. First up, we have...
Ngee Ann Wichita!"

Catholic High won the Challenge Shield and Gold, being announced as the best Singapore National Camp Patrol.

Then, we celebrated. After a debrief, we adijied Andrew, Edi and me. Then we took this Picture.

Then we went back to the campsite and started tearing down everything. In 2 hours,everything except the tent was gone. Then we went for our record 2 hour bath. Then a few of us went with Edi to go and chat with Changkat. Then we went back to the tent to sleep. The next day, we woke up and cleared up the area and then dismantled the tower. Then we waited for the bus and lorry which was fking late by around 3 hours.
Go back to school with changkat and dunman. Then after load all the equipment, then go distribute food... =) and then dunnoe who go and throw beans at the aircon ventilation, then grow. Then celebrate my bdae...already kena adijied the day before during campfire... Then went home, it was over. 2 months of hard work had paid off. The last time Ngee Ann Wichita won a silver was 1997, should be khimyong sir's batch. We had acheived what we wanted. In 2 years time, it would be a gold...

Ngee Ann Wichita Job Week Camp
March 2006

this camp was quite a disaster. The sec3s went for their sec3 leadership camp for the first n second day and only returned on the 2nd night for the campfire. The day started off with the sec1s doing something, while sec2s did flag practice and drill. den i became the ATL, and terry, gaoyang, chun aik, jun jie aaron being the other 5 pls.Den we cooked dinner and had our hide and seek. den after a long day, the ventures leaders and teachers had nothing better to do and disturbed us in our 'homes' which was the class rooms. We didnt get enuf sleep and den complained the next day but they denied.

Day 2 we started our day with breakfast. Den Jun Jie was the next tl. We went out for our job week, and this time worse than last year, i went wif 4 ppl and only got $13. after coming back, we had our sec1 investiture and our ""campfire"". folowed by another lousy night.
Day 3 started off with job week again. This time i went wif terry n aetiiqcaz. i managed to get $60 in total, but failed to get the badge requirement of $80.
den we cam back to sch and were dismissed.
This camp showed me first hand whats its like to be in "control" and how ... bad the attitude ofthe sec1s were then.

Ngee Ann Wichita Annual Scout Camp
Sarimbun (the place of "hell")
June 2006

This camp was a 4day - 3 night camp held at Sarimbun. The place with bitter memories...The day started off with loading all the equipment, then we got out patrols and boarded the bus. If im not wrong, my patrol consisted of Pinky, Zhai Wang, Justin, Jingyang, Wai hon. For me, Sarimbun Scout Camp holds many memories, both good and bad. As soon as we stepped down from the bus, i didnt feel good. We unpacked our equipment and brought it to our campsite, which was NPC Sub camp 2 if im not wrong. Den the rest falled in. i couldnt take in anymore and reported sick. Den as they had their ceremony after they built a mobile flagpole, i vomited. Den they started to pitch their tent and get their equipment from the stores, i rested in the venture's modified ridge tent. i felt really guilty that while they were doing work, all i could do was to watch them. In the after noon, i felt a bit better after taking panadol for my headache, and decided to join them . we had to built a gateway and pinky asked my to give them the design. After giving the the desgin, i vomitted again and went back to the ventures tent to rest as i wasnt feeling well again. i decided to go home at night as mr ong was willing to send me home. thanks to my sickness, i missed the lamps lesson and the confidence walk.
Day 2 started off at 4 oclock for me as i decided to return to camp. mr hazmi sent me thr however everyone was out doing theit hike. if i had went for that hike, i would have passed my exploration 2. but i dun think i could take it. This time, when i entered the place again, a tiny bit of the sickness came back. then after that we had dinner and did something else which i cant recall now...

BE PREPARED
This blog has been made by me, Chandan Panther APL of Ngee Ann Wichita Scout Troop.

JOB WEEK
My first job week was in 2001. I collected aroun 30+ dollars.
During my 2002 job week, i collected $50. Being he mischeivous boy i was, i topped up 1cent just to make it more than $50, which was required to get the badge. I then got a Bronze Bumblebee.

In my 2003 jobweek, i was primary 5. Again, I got $50 and topped up 1cent
In my final year of Primary School, I failed to get the badge, owing to a camp on the first 2 days of job week.

Secondary School Job Week was much more exicting because, i finally got actual jobs to do. It was better than so many donations in primary school. First we were brought to Tanah Merah to do job week. I went of with Zhi Peng and Ryan because we were the 3 left. Then,we found out that we should never do in 3s because you will get less money. And how do you spilt $2 which most people give? In the end i got a miserable $47. I thought that i would get my Bumble Bee next year. But...

Secondary 2 and an APL. All the more to get more than last year and at least $100. But greed overcame me and went to a condominium instead of going to "The Powerhouses" like Tanah Merah, Siglap and Mountbatten Road. I went with Dong Kun, Yuan Ming and Jeremy. First we went to the condo in Changi. We didnt get any money at all after combing a few blocks. Gaa Yang told me he had $10 while i had none. Feeling demoralised ,also because of the bet i accidentally made with Justin and Andrew Sir about getting $530, we decided to go to another area, Tanah Merah. We meet Nazri and Ruo Zeng there and also Chun Aik and Zu'An. IT was there that we gotour first donation. We got a few dollars in Tanah Merah. After that, we proceded to Bedok (near Bedok Swimming Complex). We combed a few blocks and THINK we found Khim Yong Sir's house. After lunch we went to a guys house to do cleaning for quite a while and were given $10 each. We then went back to school to continue our JOB WEEK CAMP. However it was too early and i went off on my own only to return with $0. The Total for the first day was $13.
The 2nd day was a new day. This time i went with Terry and we followed Aetiiqcaz and his partol to Mountbatten Road. We collected quite a sum there and return back to school.
The total for my job week 2006 was $60.
